Builders of Sylvan Dale, designed by Peter Ridgeway, is a unique three-dimensional tile placement game. Play a card and place a new dwelling on top of the ever-taller trees in the forest. Collect sets of cards to gain special actions, such as building bridges or magically growing treetops. Get your dwellings to stand out up in the trees, higher than those of your rivals, and be forever remembered as the greatest architect of Sylvan Dale! The game is played in two rounds. In each round, players place half of their tiles on the trees, trying to outsmart the other architects. At the end of each round, you determine which player has prestige over each tree and preeminence in each district, and you calculate fame points. The player with the highest total of fame points at the end of the second scoring phase wins!

Rebuild a woodland civilisation among the towering trees in Builders of Sylvan Dale. After disaster leaves the realm in ruins, competing architects guide their builders in creating new dwellings, bridges and hanging courtyards. The shared construction rises vertically from tree bases, turning the developing city into a visible three dimensional contest.

On each turn, players use cards and place new dwellings on the growing tree structures. Collecting matching card sets unlocks special actions, including building bridges and magically extending treetops, while careful placement helps a player's structures remain prominent above those belonging to rivals. The height and position of every new tile can therefore affect both immediate control and later building opportunities.

Area influence, set collection and tile placement work together throughout the game. Players must decide when to spend useful card combinations, which tree offers the strongest position and how much they are willing to help create platforms that opponents may later exploit. The architect who earns the greatest fame from the completed settlement is remembered as Sylvan Dale's foremost builder.
