Set during the events of Mass Effect 3, this cooperative story driven campaign sends the team to the remote world of Hagalaz, where Cerberus forces and deeper threats guard the shattered vessel. Players explore through linked missions while a card driven enemy system controls opposition.
The campaign branches in response to player decisions, so choices made early in the story can alter later missions and help determine the ending. A complete story contains three to five chapters, and the available paths support multiple playthroughs. Shepard can recruit Liara, Tali, Wrex and Garrus, building a squad around the abilities needed for each objective.
Squad members gain experience from mission to mission and can upgrade their abilities, equipment and powers. Optional loyalty missions unlock a unique additional power for each companion, adding both narrative and mechanical reasons to explore different routes. The campaign map, narrative text and mission books organise the evolving story, while bespoke dice, miniatures, cards and tokens handle combat and tactical challenges.
